TIM Continues Expanding Its Network with a Focus on Becoming Brazil’s Preferred Operator

We’ve reached 1,000 cities with 5G and completed the network modernization project in São Paulo

TIM has become the first operator in Brazil to activate 5G in 1,000 cities, achieving this milestone with the inclusion of Paracatu (MG), a municipality known for mining and agriculture. The operator now covers all neighborhoods in the 27 state capitals and approximately 75% of the urban population, with more than 40% of mobile traffic in the capitals running on the 5G network. TIM also anticipated by nearly two years the Anatel targets for cities with over 100,000 inhabitants, reflecting an efficient investment strategy: the cost per gigabyte on 5G is one-third of that on 4G, with greater capacity, lower energy consumption, and better network utilization.

Following this network evolution, we are concluding the largest mobile network modernization project ever undertaken by the company — and one of the most ambitious in Brazil’s telecommunications sector. By replacing technology in 3,000 sites across 64 cities in the São Paulo metropolitan region (area code 11), the project increased network capacity by 40% and reduced energy consumption by 15%. The impact is direct for approximately 10 million customers, who are already experiencing significant improvements in service quality.

The initiative involved a complete upgrade of the network infrastructure, with state-of-the-art equipment and architecture designed to support exponential data traffic growth and the evolution toward more advanced digital services, such as 5G standalone and Internet of Things applications.

Technical leadership and quality perception

Recently, Opensignal, an independent mobile network analysis company, confirmed that TIM’s investments in São Paulo have directly impacted quality indicators. The report shows that TIM leads in three categories related to the 5G network:

  • Consistent quality;
  • Reliability experience;
  • Download speed experience, reaching 368.3 Mbps.

These results highlight not only significant advances in our infrastructure but also TIM’s efficiency in network management and service delivery, reinforcing the company’s commitment providing superior connectivity and a differentiated experience for its customers.
